Blog Post of the Day:

Finish this sentence "10 years from now I will be...." (explain)

10 years from now I will be living in my own home with my loving husband and children. I will have 2 kids and 2 Great Danes. I will have a successful career, but still be able to make plenty of time for my kids. My house will be a small, 2 story house with a big back yard for the kids. My family and I will be very happy 10 years from now.

Blog Post of the Day:
Yesterday I had you choose a global issue and you wrote about it on your blog. Today on your blog I want you to tell me about two different perspectives of your global issue. Are there people for an against your issue? Do people disagree on your issue? Is it a topic that can cause controversy? Look at the issue for two different perspectives. Tell me about those perspectives.

Some people are completely willing to help the homeless and see them as people that need the help to rebuild their lives. They work on mission projects or donate money to local organizations to do as much as they can for the issue. However, there are some people that are against helping the homeless. Some people look down upon homeless people and don't want to help them because they think they will abuse the opportunities given to them with the use of drugs or alcohol. When in reality, most homeless people simply want help getting back on their feet.

Homelessness

1. Without doing any research, what background do you currently have on this issue?
2. What do you want to know about this issue?
3. Why did you choose this issue? Had it effected your life? Is it something you are passionate about? Explain.

I know that homelessness is a very present issue in all societies today. It affects millions of people all over the world. I want to know how everyone can take part in ending homelessness. I chose this issue because I have done various mission projects with my church that dealt with helping the homeless. We did things like serve them meals and just sit with them and talk. I would say that I am passionate about this issue because I have tried to help a lot with it. I would like to learn as much about it as I can so I can know how to help.

Blog Post of the Day:
Last week I asked your to "think differently" and push yourself to be uncommon with your PSA project using Google Slides. Why do you think I asked you to do that? What is the point? Why not just use bullets and headers? Explain.

It is important for our PSA's to be original and different from others to capture our audience's attention. If we all have the same header and bullet layout, the audience will be uninterested in what we have to say. If we have an interesting format for our information, our audience will be more likely to remember. So if we are original with our PSA ideas, our presentation will have more of an effect on people.

Texting & Driving

Friday, January 23rd

Blog Post of the Day:

Kids these days are always on their handheld computers having fake conversations with each other. With their "lol's" and their "ttyl's" they aren't even speaking English! I remember back when the only way you could talk to someone was by actually speaking to them, saying real words. The only games we played were monopoly and tag. Kids these days with their candy smash and mad birds never get to see the sunlight and play like a normal kid. Kids these days need to put down their computers and live a real life, not an electronic one.

Blog Post of the Day:
What is a public service announcement (PSA)? What do PSA's do? What makes a good PSA? How can you get someone to take action after watching a PSA? What is your PSA idea? Explain in detail.

A public service announcement is a presentation that informs citizens of a present issue that they can do something about. A good PSA will use words and images to evoke emotion and promote change. To get people to take action, the PSA must tell them what they can do to help the issue. For my PSA, I am talking about texting and driving, which is a very present issue in our society today. I will show the negative effects it has on families and lives, show statistics, and call people to action by making them want to take the pledge against texting while driving.

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me all about your 3 day weekend. Share photos!

I was very busy over the 3 day weekend. My volleyball team and I competed in the MLK Tournament at Bartle Hall. Along with the 3 day tournament, I also had 6 hour musical rehearsals on Saturday and Monday. On Saturday I had musical from 10-2, rushed downtown for my tournament from 2-9, and then I rushed back home for my friend's surprise birthday party. On Sunday we didn't have musical rehearsal, so I just had the volleyball tournament from 2-9 and hung out with friends afterwards. On Monday, I had to miss my entire tournament because musical was at the same time. My team won in our bracket and while I wish I could have been there, I am very proud of them.

Blog Post of the Day:

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your life here at BVHS. What activities or clubs are you involved in? What year are you in school? What is your favorite class and/or teacher so far this year? What are you looking forward to this school year? Include some original photos from your phone if you can.

I am a sophomore at Blue Valley High School, and I am involved in Choraliers and a show choir called Classy Ladies. I am also a cast member in the musical, 42nd Street. Choir is a very demanding activity to be involved in. Along with taking two hours of choir classes every day, we have Classy Ladies rehearsals after school 2-3 days a week. We also have musical rehearsals everyday after school from 3-6, and every Saturday we have musical rehearsals for 6-10 hours because of our upcoming show. For Choraliers, regular concert choir for freshmen and sophomores, we occasionally have early rehearsals and concerts that take several hours. Although choir is such a demanding activity, I enjoy it a lot and it is my favorite class. This year I am looking forward to performing the musical and performing in Spring Show. Spring Show is a special choir concert where everyone performs pop and Broadway numbers instead o traditional choral pieces. This will be an exciting year with everything going on in choir this year.

What are your thoughts on this class so far? Easy? Hard? Informative? Frustrating? What have you learned so far? What do you want to learn? Explain yourself.

So far, Emerging Technology has been a helpful class to me. I know very little about the online tools we use in the everyday classroom, and this class has already taught me the basics. I can apply the information this class teaches me to my other courses such as English Language Arts. I found it very helpful to learn about Google Docs and the Google Chrome browser, and I plan on using both of these tools for the rest of my educational career.

Monday, January 12th

Tell me about your weekend. What did you do? Upload a photo to your Google Drive and then insert the photo (or photos!) to your blog post to show me what all you did.

This weekend I went to the Blue Valley High School basketball game with some friends. The theme for the game was lumberjack so my friends and I wore flannel shirts and work boots. After the game, we all went to Chipotle. On Saturday, I went to Buffalo Wild Wings after musical rehearsal with some choir friends. We accidentally knocked 2 drinks over, so the waiter brought us lids for our cups. It was kind of embarrassing. It was so embarrassing that i decided I needed to take a picture of it. On Sunday I went to youth group at Legacy Christian Church and lead worship songs for the group. Overall, my weekend was very eventful and fun.

Thursday, January 8th

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

While I agree that teenagers should be productive, I believe that we are at the age where we can afford to have some fun. Once we are all grown up and have to work every minute of the day and support a family, we will have no time for fun. Young people should really take advantage of the small amount of time and freedom we have as youth. We are still young and should try new things and hang out with our friends while we have all the time in the world to do so. I'm not saying that teenagers should bum around on the couch all day, but that we should use our time wisely because we won't have as much time or freedom in the future.
